Hurry Up And Wait

Posted by Nineteen Eighty-Sixed on

We’re in the thick of Spring Training now. The Mets have been showing some encouraging signs, and a few not-so-encouraging ones as well. But overall things are looking promising, at least when we fans up here in New York can actually see our Metsies. There’s been lots of grumbling about the lack of live TV coverage of most games. It makes sense that fans are extra hungry to watch baseball after a pandemic-shortened season. And while it does suck to not see Jacob deGrom throwing gems, we should remember that in just a few short weeks, which admittedly feels like...

Play Ball!

Posted by Nineteen Eighty-Sixed on

This past week brought us actual baseball games being played for the first time in four months. Although they don’t count for real, we got to see newcomers like Francisco Lindor, James McCann, and Trevor May in a Mets uniform for the first time, and that counts for a lot. Excitement continues to buzz around camp, and among fans, as pitchers work on new stuff, and position players work on their fielding and timing at the plate. We even got Gary, Keith, and Ron back in action for a televised game on Tuesday. These are only the first warmup steps...

Spring Training is in full effect, with the first exhibition game against the Marlins tomorrow! All the reports from Mets camp have been pointing to a common theme of good vibes among the players and coaching staff. The Swing of Things

Posted by Nineteen Eighty-Sixed on

It’s an exciting time of year for baseball fans as pitchers & catchers reported this week, and position players report tomorrow. Hopes for the coming season are at an all-time high for fans and players alike. Those hopes will unfortunately come crashing down to reality for many, as Opening Day comes and goes and the dog days of summer drag on into autumn. But for now, we’ll just enjoy the return of this yearly ritual, as players and coaches settle into their routines, and we all get to watch a few meaningless, sun-soaked games on TV. It sure beats staring...

Bobby Valentine’s Day

Posted by Nineteen Eighty-Sixed on

Hello, and welcome to The Racing Stripe. Our attempt to add one more Mets related blog/newsletter to the already crowded upper deck of Mets content. Today is Valentine's Day, which means cards, flowers, candy, dinner, maybe a little romance, fake mustaches, sneaking back into the dugout after being ejected... oh wait, sorry. That's Bobby Valentine's Day, which makes us feel romantic for baseball, and the good news is that pitchers & catchers report on Wednesday! CAUGHT IN A RUNDOWNAll the news from this past week, which you’ve probably already seen by now. 🟠 The Mets signed utility player, Jonathan Villar, to...
